Jubilee Tutoring and Mentoring Initiative

Jubilee Tutoring and Mentoring Initiative (TAMI)

What is TAMI?

The Tutoring and Mentoring Initiative (TAMI) falls outside Jubilee’s historic core focus on providing scholarship grants to Christian schools.

Yet it is wholly consistent with the latest iteration of the Jubilee Strategic Plan that Jubilee would find ways to enhance the academic opportunities and experiences of students in our Schools. If students in our network Schools perform better academically with a greater degree of self-confidence, they will be better equipped to reach their God-given potentials both in school and out.

Jubilee is excited to engage in this new initiative. The program is currently operating in two schools, with plans to expand to the rest of our schools in the months to come.

Additionally, Children’s Jubilee Fund facilitates access to member school resources, and through its work with students, schools, and churches, the organization is recognized as a cornerstone in the Christian education community.

Tutoring Aspect

  • Focus on Grades 3-12
  • Open to all students of a Jubilee network School, whether or not the student personally receives Jubilee scholarships
  • Students must be recommended for tutoring by their teacher, with permission from the parent/guardian
  • Focus in tutoring will be on core skill development (rather than assignment completion)
  • 1:1 Tutor to Student ratio
  • Tutoring will take place exclusively over Google Meet
  • Skill offerings will be initially limited to core competencies including math, language arts, reading comprehension and fluency
  • Tutor provides written feedback to teacher on a regular basis

Mentoring Aspect

  • Focus on Grades 8-12
  • Open to all students of a Jubilee network School, whether or not the student personally receives Jubilee scholarships
  • Students must be recommended by their teacher and/or guidance counselor, with permission from the parent/guardian
  • Focus of mentoring is the acquisition of knowledge, skills, and abilities to excel in post-secondary education and/or the work world
  • 1:1 Mentor to Mentee ratio
  • Mentoring will take place over a combination of Zoom and in-person meetings. The mentoring program may include offsite visits to places of business or post-secondary schools.
  • The Mentor and Mentee will create a plan at the start of the academic year and work to achieve those goals throughout the year
  • Mentor will provide regular written feedback to the teacher/guidance counselor and parent/guardian

Volunteers Needed

TAMI Tutors and Mentors will be volunteers. All volunteers will go through a screening and interview process with Jubilee, and will need clean criminal clearances from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Additionally, TAMI Tutors and Mentors will go through training by Jubilee before they start work.

Tutoring and mentoring will take place on weekdays after school hours. We ask volunteers to commit to one hour of student contact weekly. Some volunteers may wish to volunteer additional time with students, which may be accommodated through Jubilee.
